Open Swim UK run 6 sessions of open water swimming every week between April and September at Sale Water Park and then Winter Swims from November - March

We just love swimming and especially in open water.

Jane McCormick

Jane is co - founder of Openswim UK and one of the most recognised open water swimmers in the north west having completed a number of prestigious swims both in the UK and around the world.

She has swum the English Channel solo and is a member of the team that hold the world record for the fastest two-way and three way English Channel crossings.


She has swum around Manhattan Island, raced in New Zealand and swum Windermere over 20 times as well as swimming the full length there and back.

In addition, Jane has swum the lengths of Loch Lomond, Loch Earn, Coniston, Ullswater and various smaller swims.

Jane is a Wim Hof Method instructor and an Oxygen Advantage instructor and specialises in combining cold water immersion and breathwork with swimming to improve both physical and mental wellbeing.


When she’s not swimming, Jane is a mum to Archie her nine year old son, Keena, his six year old sister and Annie, who was the newest addition to the Openswim team in January 2021.

Bob has been swimming in lakes, seas, oceans and swimming pools for over 50 years. He has competed throughout most of this time mainly as a swimmer but also as a triathlete and still competes as a Masters swimmer to this day.

 

In his younger days he also played national league water polo. He has swum every major lake in England and Wales (plus a few in Scotland!) and in his 61st year was part of a channel relay team that achieved the first successful crossing of the year in 2021.

 


He is a Swim England Level 2 qualified teacher/coach and one of a handful of qualified Open Water coaches in the country. In addition he is a Swim England IoS tutor delivering Level 1 and 2 Coach courses and the L2  open water swimming coach course. Bob is also the Chairman of Trafford Metro Swimming Club in South Manchester, where he coaches the Junior County squad. He also coaches and swims with the Masters squad on a shared basis with his swimming wife Jo (herself a level 3 swimming coach and Open Swim UK coach) preparing swimmers for pool based and open water competition. The Masters group is one of the country's top teams boasting numerous World, European and British record holders.

 


Bob is an elected member of the Cheshire Swimming Executive, sits on the Cheshire swimming committee and is the Cheshire Masters swimming secretary and open water representative.

 

He is also heads up the North West Region Masters committee and is a Board member of the NW Region committee as well as a Director of the NW Region Ltd. He has served an unprecedented 4 years in office as President of the Manchester & District Swimming & Water Polo Association. Bob is also a Swim England licensed swimming official for pool and open water qualified as a referee.

 

In 2020 Bob received the Cherriman Award from British Swimming for outstanding services to the British Masters swimming community.

Jo Bolton

Swim England L3 Coach

Swim England L2 Open Water Coach

Jo is one of a handful of level three coaches in the UK and has taught and coached swimmers of all abilities.

 

As a swimmer, Jo is exceptional and swam competitively until age 20 even competing at Olympic trials in 1986. 


In 1985, she qualified as a swimming teacher having taught all ages from toddlers to adults over many years.


Jo also holds a powerboat level 2 and sub-aqua open water diving certificate as well as being an NPLQ lifeguard and member of the IoS.

She was head coach of Trafford Metro Swimming club up until 2011 and still swims and competes as a masters swimmer for Trafford Metro Masters and has been the 50m 100m and 200m National short course breaststroke champion several times and the 50m and 100m British champion too.

Jo swims all year round and has completed most of UK's lakes, including Windermere. She was also a member of the first successful channel relay team in 2021.

In November 2021 she was selected to represent GB in the Ice Swimming World Championships. She has successfully completed an Ice Mile (swimming a mile in under 5 degree water) and is a qualified IISA official
